Job description
The First Church of Christ in New Haven, also known as Center Church on the Green, is seeking to hire a part-time Music Director and Organist. Center Church is a progressive mainline church that exemplifies New England Congregationalism. Organized by Puritan settlers in 1639, our congregation, one of the oldest in America, is tight-knit and historic yet diverse, friendly, and forward-thinking. The center of our community life is our Sunday morning worship, featuring a dignified service of communal prayer, scripture reading, and a thought provoking sermon complemented by music on our Fisk pipe organ (Opus 54) and a mixture of traditional and modern hymns. The setting for our worship services is our 1814 Federal-style meetinghouse with its box pews, Tiffany window, and storied crypt.

The Music Director is responsible for developing and promoting a vibrant, varied music program that enhances the congregation’s worship life. The position involves music selection in collaboration with the Senior Minister and key lay leaders, directing choir rehearsals and performances, providing organ and piano accompaniment, selecting guest musicians, and building community with the congregation and the choir. This is an opportunity for a dynamic, innovative individual to develop a robust music program at this historic institution in the city’s center.

Interested candidates should submit a resume/CV and links to recorded performances to pastor@ccotg.org. The review of candidate submissions will begin July 22, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
